Hawker Siddeley Hs 125-1/2/3/400/600

Twin Jet· 9 globally registered

The Hawker Siddeley HS-125 Series 400A is a British twin-engine business jet that became one of the most successful corporate aircraft of the 1960s and 1970s, with over 1,700 examples built across all variants. Introduced in 1965 as an evolution of the original HS-125, the Series 400A featured uprated Rolls-Royce Viper 522 turbojets producing 3,360 pounds of thrust each, giving it a maximum cruise speed of 502 knots and a range of approximately 1,700 nautical miles with full fuel and reserves. The type pioneered the low-wing, T-tail configuration that would become standard for business jets, and its spacious stand-up cabin could accommodate eight to ten passengers in executive comfort. The HS-125 family served not only corporate operators but also military forces worldwide under designations like the U.S. Air Force C-29 and Royal Air Force Dominie, proving the design's versatility for navigation training, calibration, and light transport roles. Its reliability and relatively modest operating costs made it a favorite among charter operators and private owners throughout North America and Europe. SkyMeter has tracked 5 flights across 1 airframes and 1 operators, with the largest observed operator.

Safety in context

The incident rate counts flights with ANY safety event detected by SkyMeter: go-arounds (a routine response, not a failure), unstable-approach gate flags (advisory thresholds), rejected takeoffs (the system working as designed), and runway events. It is NOT an accident rate or fatality rate. For accident statistics, refer to the NTSB Aviation Accident Database (USA) or the Aviation Safety Network. See methodology for what each event type measures.
