Single Piston· 265 globally registered

The Beechcraft 19 series represents Beechcraft's entry into the four-seat, single-engine trainer and personal aircraft market during the 1960s and 1970s. Originally introduced as the Musketeer in 1963, the line evolved through several variants including the Sport, Custom, and Sundowner models, all sharing the distinctive low-wing configuration and rugged construction that became hallmarks of the design. Beechcraft positioned the Model 19 as a more affordable alternative to their premium Bonanza line while maintaining the build quality and handling characteristics the company was known for. The aircraft featured a 180-horsepower Lycoming engine in its most common Sport and Sundowner configurations, fixed tricycle landing gear, and a spacious cabin that made it popular with flight schools and private owners alike. With a cruise speed around 130 knots and useful load exceeding 900 pounds, the BE19 offered practical cross-country capability without the complexity or operating costs of retractable-gear aircraft. Production continued through 1983, and the type remains a fixture at general aviation airports across North America, valued for its docile handling, solid construction, and relatively low maintenance requirements. The Sundowner variant in particular earned a reputation as an excellent instrument training platform and family aircraft. SkyMeter has tracked 63 flights across 24 airframes and 24 operators, with NO LIMITS AVIATION INC the largest observed operator.

Safety in context

The incident rate counts flights with ANY safety event detected by SkyMeter: go-arounds (a routine response, not a failure), unstable-approach gate flags (advisory thresholds), rejected takeoffs (the system working as designed), and runway events. It is NOT an accident rate or fatality rate. For accident statistics, refer to the NTSB Aviation Accident Database (USA) or the Aviation Safety Network. See methodology for what each event type measures.
