The Zlin Z-43 is a four-seat, single-engine touring and training aircraft built by Czechoslovakia's Zlin Aviation (now part of the Czech Republic's aviation industry) starting in the late 1960s. Powered by a 210-horsepower Avia M337 inline engine (a license-built variant of the Walter Minor), the Z-43 was designed as a rugged, all-metal successor to earlier Zlin trainers and aerobatic types, offering better payload and range for flight schools, aero clubs, and private owners across Eastern Europe. Its distinctive inverted-gull wing and tricycle landing gear made it stable and forgiving for student pilots, while its sturdy construction allowed operation from grass strips and unimproved fields common in rural Czechoslovakia and neighboring countries during the Cold War era. Though never produced in large numbers compared to Western contemporaries like the Cessna 172 or Piper Cherokee, the Z-43 earned a reputation for reliability and low operating costs in the Eastern Bloc.
