The Caproni Ca.100 is a classic Italian biplane trainer and aerobatic aircraft designed by Giovanni Caproni in the early 1930s. Originally developed as a primary trainer for the Regia Aeronautica, the Ca.100 became one of Italy's most successful light aircraft exports of the interwar period, with production spanning from 1931 through the late 1930s and variants built under license in several countries. Its sturdy steel-tube fuselage, fabric-covered wings, and docile handling characteristics made it ideal for ab-initio pilot training, while its aerobatic capability allowed advanced students to master loops, rolls, and spins in a forgiving airframe. Powered by a variety of radial engines ranging from 85 to 110 horsepower (most commonly the de Havilland Gipsy or Alfa Romeo 110), the Ca.100 cruised at around 90 knots with a service ceiling near 16,000 feet. Its tandem open cockpits and conventional tailwheel undercarriage epitomize the golden age of barnstorming biplanes, and the type saw service not only in Italy but also in air forces and flying schools across South America, Eastern Europe, and North Africa. A handful of restored examples remain airworthy today, prized by vintage aircraft collectors for their historical significance and spirited flying qualities.
