Embraer 500 Phenom 100

Twin Jet· 210 globally registered

The Embraer Phenom 100 redefined the entry-level jet market when it entered service in 2008 as the first very light jet to achieve genuine commercial success. Designed in Brazil and built with a focus on single-pilot certification, the Phenom 100 brought jet performance and cabin comfort to an ownership tier previously dominated by high-end turboprops. Its Williams FJ44-2A engines deliver a maximum cruise speed of 390 knots and a range of roughly 1,178 nautical miles, making it ideal for short regional hops and owner-flown operations. The aircraft's low approach speed of around 92 knots and docile handling characteristics made it popular with pilot-owners transitioning from piston twins and turboprops. The Phenom 100's cabin, though compact, seats up to seven and features a flat floor and stand-up headroom in the aft section, unusual refinement for a jet in the 12,500-pound class. Embraer's Prodigy flight deck, based on Garmin G1000 avionics, provided a modern glass cockpit that simplified training and operations. The type found a diverse customer base ranging from private owners and small charter operators to government agencies and flight training organizations. Its combination of jet speed, reasonable operating costs, and access to shorter runways carved out a niche that larger light jets couldn't fill economically. SkyMeter has tracked 649 flights across 184 airframes and 105 operators, with SPARK AVIATION LLC the largest observed operator.

Safety in context

The incident rate counts flights with ANY safety event detected by SkyMeter: go-arounds (a routine response, not a failure), unstable-approach gate flags (advisory thresholds), rejected takeoffs (the system working as designed), and runway events. It is NOT an accident rate or fatality rate. For accident statistics, refer to the NTSB Aviation Accident Database (USA) or the Aviation Safety Network. See methodology for what each event type measures.
