Cessna 335

Twin Piston· 30 globally registered

The Cessna 335 is a light twin-engine piston aircraft introduced in 1979 as the unpressurized sibling to the popular Cessna 340. Built in Wichita, Kansas, the 335 was designed for owner-pilots who wanted the 340's cabin space, twin-engine reliability, and 200-knot cruise performance without the complexity and maintenance burden of a pressurization system. Powered by two Continental TSIO-520-EB turbocharged engines producing 300 horsepower each, the 335 offered a practical compromise: lower operating costs, simpler systems, and a useful load advantage over the pressurized 340, while sacrificing only high-altitude comfort. Production ran just two years, from 1979 to 1980, making it one of the rarest Cessna twins with only 65 aircraft built before Cessna discontinued the line to focus on the 340 and the upcoming Conquest series. The 335's brief production window and modest fleet size have made it a relatively obscure type, though owners prize its straightforward systems and solid cross-country capability. With a maximum cruise speed around 200 knots, a service ceiling of 24,400 feet, and a range exceeding 1,000 nautical miles, the 335 remains a capable if uncommon sight in general aviation. SkyMeter has tracked 4 flights across 3 airframes and 3 operators, with WINGS AIRCRAFT LLC the largest observed operator.

Safety in context

The incident rate counts flights with ANY safety event detected by SkyMeter: go-arounds (a routine response, not a failure), unstable-approach gate flags (advisory thresholds), rejected takeoffs (the system working as designed), and runway events. It is NOT an accident rate or fatality rate. For accident statistics, refer to the NTSB Aviation Accident Database (USA) or the Aviation Safety Network. See methodology for what each event type measures.
