The Bellanca 17-30A Viking represents the final evolution of a distinctive American design lineage that began in the 1960s. Built by Bellanca Aircraft Corporation, the Viking series is immediately recognizable by its cruciform tail and semi-cantilever wood-and-fabric wing construction, a throwback to Giuseppe Bellanca's interwar design philosophy emphasizing aerodynamic efficiency over manufacturing simplicity. The 17-30A variant, introduced in the mid-1970s, is powered by a 300-horsepower Continental IO-520 engine, making it one of the most powerful fixed-gear singles of its era with a cruise speed around 175 knots and useful load exceeding 1,400 pounds.
